NHS Property Services has agreed to move its headquarters from the City of London to Canary Wharf.
NHSPS is moving from 99 Gresham Street in the City to the 10 South Colonnade complex at Canary Wharf. It is taking 25,000 sq ft of the 500,000-sq-ft building on a lease assignment from the Government Property Agency, which holds the headlease from the Canary Wharf Group
As it was an intra-government deal no advisers were involved.
The move forms part of the NHS's smarter working policy, which looks to enable more flexible ways of working and ensure efficient use of NHS space, while making significant savings for the health service.
NHSPS, which owns over 10 per cent of the NHS estate, will relocate to the hub later this year. The move to a smaller footprint will have several benefits for the public sector and the NHS it said, with cost savings invested directly back into the health service.
The relocation will create a Southern Collaboration and Training Hub.
The NHSPS’ Smarter Working policy was introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The policy, which provides employees with more choice around their working location, expects to boost the productivity and wellbeing amongst staff and enhance savings for the NHS through proactive management of the national office estate. NHSPS supports the NHS with office consolidation and the implementation of new ways of working as part of its service offer.
