Ask-re were instructed to appeal their business rates liability for the 2005 List. Upon investigation we found that they were being massively over-charged on Business Rates while residing commercially in a unique building, a Grade II listed multi-storey car park—converted to “The Mothership” in 2000.
OUR PROFESSIONAL APPROACHAsk-re’s first move was to explore and seek-out special procedure directions from the Valuation Tribunal, due to the uniqueness of the building, which is a one-of-a-kind in London, we felt it was necessary to apply for special procedural directions to maximise our chances of achieving full Tribunal consideration of our case for a sizeable reduction in their business rates liability. Ask-re spent 18 months of negotiation and preparation to present the appeal at the Hearing, bringing-in other experts and our specialist lawyer as advocate.
THE SUCCESS STORYAfter 2 full days at Valuation Tribunal (something that is rarely heard of!) we achieved a reduction of 20% off the rateable value, worth £350,000 cash to McCann.
This was ask-re’s 16th consecutive win at Tribunal since mid-2013!
We are now well placed to proceed with the 2010 List appeal to try and improve the clients tax liabilities up to the 2017 Revaluation.
