CLIENT BRIEFAsk-re completed the fit-out of the combined head offices at Plesman House, near Heathrow. The fit-out of the 18,000sq ft building, formerly part occupied by Alitalia, was completed in two, seven week phases.

The services provided included detailed design and specification preparation, budgetary advice, furniture audit, procurement advice, production of tender documentation and action, supervising the planning and contract administration and negotiating the final account.

OUR PROFESSIONAL APPROACHFollowing the merger of Air France and KLM, Ask-re was commissioned to implement a full scale fit-out to consolidate the UK and Ireland head offices of both companies and consequently achieve economies, as well as further developing their partnership by residing under one roof.

The project had to be delivered within budgetary constraints and a key requirement was to sequence the work, allowing KLM to remain in the building and operate at full capacity throughout the duration of the work.

The client was keen to re-use its existing furniture and the space plan was developed to enable this to be integrated into the new layout to best effect.

THE SUCCESS STORYFollowing the successful fit-out KLM also engaged the service of ask-re to advise on the best way to mitigate their business rates liability. The work undertaken involved auditing and examining the rates bill. Our investigations uncovered a serious miscalculation by the Billing Authority on the rates charged for our clients Heathrow Airport premises. This has been rectified and has resulted in KLM receiving a £247,000 cash refund!

THE VERDICT*“This was a very important project for the integration of the UK commercial operations of*KLM Royal Dutch AirlinesandAir France*, and ask-re fulfilled a crucial role**in its success. The project was completed on time and to budget and in a manner that enabled the operational use of the building to continue unhindered during the course of the works. The ask-re team achieved detailed understanding of our requirements and delivered a very effective solution.”*Kees van Schaik – Financial Controller, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
